CAL NEWSLETTER, February 2025

President’s Letter

This is a new year, with times of tumult and repair, but many have yet to reach a place of resolution. We sent out a query as to who needed help for art supplies and or studio space to work on their art, due to the loss of homes. We had several members who stepped up to generously offer both. We had one person who'd lost everything, but is taking a bye for now until their life gets back to normal.

I knew of an artist/ sculptor who'd lost most everything: his family home, studio, library, all originally put together by his father, a known sculptor. I asked if he could come to our meeting; if he might be interested in receiving some art supplies. He agreed. Some members were quite generous in their offerings and were happy to help him out. It was truly, heartwarming and we was very grateful.

At the meeting, we asked what type of social events members might like to transpire in CAL. We got answers, and we hope to bring as many of these ideas to fruition. as we can. Then came the fun part of the meeting. Some artists brought their work to share. This was, as it always is, a very inspirational gathering. Seeing other artists' work, hearing their process of ideas to struggles, to what medium really worked for them, their history of how they got into art- it all felt like a tribe. We each do art, but it is often, an isolating activity. When we get to see different ways of working, we are inspired, as well as hearing how others have overcome their own obstacles, or just hearing how they did something really wonderful. This makes it worthwhile, in my book, to keep keeping on, even when times are hard.

We have a few new things on the horizon this year. As you know by now, CAL has become a member of TAG gallery. Our one big group show, Imaginations, is just around the corner. Thank you to all who submitted work. There were many submissions, well beyond spots available for them. If your work did not get in, there will be more opportunities. Do know you are in very good company!

Keep creating, and keep an eye out for more. We'll be at one of the galleries at Bergamot Station in November! I asked Eric Renard, our show chair, if he could make that happen, because it was a top favorite "what if" for me. He made it happen! (Bravo, Eric!)

I hope to see you come support CAL at our upcoming TAG reception. It's a pretty cool venue if you haven't yet seen it. There will also be other shows going on simultaneously, to check out from different members of TAG, which is inspiring!

Bring some wine or cheese/ crackers and send me a line about that if you please, at: norakgroups@gmail.com

Looking forward to seeing you soon, at TAG gallery for our Imaginations show, Saturday, March 1st, from 5 PM to 8 PM.

Take care, and keep creating!
