CAL NEWSLETTER, July 2025

President’s Letter

Sunday, July 20th is the deadline for our Gold Medal CAL show. Don't miss it, submit today!

As of the date of this letter, that's in a few days. For anyone who might be vacillating as to the theme, don't. Just send what you like of your work; that which you're most proud of, and has not been in a CAL show, before.

To submit, just click:
https://www.onlinejuriedshows.com/Default.aspx?OJSID=58839

Did I mention that we voted to get rid of the requirement in our shows that the work submitted must have been created within the past three years? Why did we do that? I blame myself. It's hard, (at least for me), to sell art. I have to put at least a modicum of price on my paintings, due to the amount of time it takes to do them, but still, they're not really cheap... In short, they're piling up.

Is that happening to any of you?

I felt it wasn't fair that several of us may well have some real gems that for one reason or another, did not sell, and that are now stacking upon tables, walls, shelves, under the bed...

So if you "don't have anything new" and you have "no time to do something new", do consider digging through the piles of paintings, photos, collages, etc... of your creations and as long as it's not been previously juried into a show of ours before.

Clearly stated: CAL members may submit paintings of any previous year as long as you are the author of that work of art and it has not previously been exhibited in a CAL show.

That is the main thing I'd like to impart at the moment. This is the shortest letter you've gotten from me, but at this point, possibly the most important thing I have to say right now.

You guys stay cool, keep making your art, and enjoy the journey!

All the Best,
Nora Koerber, President, CAL
