All associate CAL members are invited to the jurying-in session to becom Exhibiting members. This includes all new associates, continuing associates, and new members (who are automatically new associates.) This also includes members who tried to jury in in the past, but were not selected to become exhibiting members.
If you are juired-in, you become an Exhibiting member and are eligible to enter all CAL exhibits. This includes juried exhibits with multiple prizes, exhibited at either the Blinn House in Pasadena or the SFV Arts and Cultural Center in Tarzana.
The jurying-in is an evaluation of your work by a panel of CAL board members. We examine three of your works made in the last 3 years, all in the same genre (i.e. portrait, landscape, animals, etc) and in the same medium (i.e. watermedia, acrylic, sculpture, photographs, etc.). We evaluate the works on your use of the medium, artistic competence, and overall quality...are they gallery quality works? Frames are not necessary, but works on paper and photos must be mounted.
The primary way to submit the works is to bring them to Ken Ronney's home in Reseda, where the evaluation will take place on August 4. Works must be delivered by 5:00 pm, to allow for paperwork preparation. The actual jurying takes place around 8:00, as a separate part of our monthly board meeting. Contact Ken for setting up delivery time at 818- 996-1630 or Kronney@aol.com.
The second way to submit is by .JPG photos, on-line. These can be sent to Kronney@aol.com, with a brief message they are for the August juring-in.
We also encourage members to give us a link to your on-line portfolio or web page, so we can look at a larger body of your work. This gives the jurying committee a better perspective of your talents and skills, and can also showcase your ability to work in more than one medium and/or genre.
If you are selected to become an exhibiting member, you will be notified withing a day or two, enough time to submit an entry into the upcoming CAL Gold Medal Exhibit.
If you have any questions, contact Ken Ronney by phone at 818 996-1630 or Kronney@aol.com.
